DFC’s mission is to create an equitable food system that challenges the traditional food system by building a community and developing a worker-owned asset that nourishes, employs, and reinvests in the local community. They emphasize the importance of reinvesting in the local economy by prioritizing employment and supporting local businesses, while also providing quality food for all. The DFC is opening a grocery store in 2023, located at the corner of Bowdoin Street and Topliff Street in Dorchester, MA. The new building being constructed will consist of about 40 affordable housing units, with the store on the first floor. In addition to offering nutritious foods at affordable prices, the co-op will be a space for residents to gather for programming and community events.

During Spring 2019, NUImpact officially closed on its first investment of $25,000 in Boston-based company EatWell, which prepares nutritious, affordable, and culturally-appropriate food preparation meal kits for food-insecure families. 40 million United States residents, including up to 10% of Bostonians, lack access to affordable and healthy food options.
